Sarkodie claims he is a rapper in Ghana but says he is an Afrobeat artist when he goes outside – Kelvyn Boy

Afrobeat singer and songwriter, Kelvyn Boy is one of the upcoming artists who speaks his mind on any given day and time no matter the attacks and bullies he undergoes.

Kelvyn Boy in an interview on Joy Prime’s ‘Prime Morning’ with Jay Foley and Emefa stated that he came under attack when he spoke about Ghanaians not being original because they cherish Hip-Hop, Dancehall and other genres that are not African.

He also mentioned that since he spoke about that, VGMA took a clue out of it, and now they have introduced Afrobeat to the categories.

Kelvyn Boy asserted that every genre we have in Ghana is not a thing that we should rely on, because they were all imported but the one that is for Africans and was made for Africans is Afrobeat.

He also stated that many hardcore rappers in Ghana say they are rappers when they are in the country, but when they get the chance to be on the bigger platforms outside like the DW, CNN, BBC, and others they say they do Afrobeat.

He noted that he has heard Sarkodie on many occasions say he is an Afrobeat artist when he goes outside the country but he is known here to be a rapper.

He said, “There are a lot of big rappers who do hardcore rap music in Ghana but when they go outside and they are asked what kind of genre they do, they say they do Afrobeat”.

“I have heard Sarkodie say he does Afrobeat when he goes outside but says he is a rapper when he is in Ghana”.
