Met Police to investigate several Downing Street events over COVID-19 lockdown breaches, Dame Cressida Dick confirms

Number 10 Downing Street is the headquarters and London residence of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

On Tuesday, Metropolitan Police Commissioner Cressida Dick announced that the Met is now investigating several events in Whitehall and Downing Street for potential breaches of COVID-19 rules. Cressida Dick clarified that although it is not standard procedure for the Met to investigate retrospective breaches, she recognised that some occasions would call for an investigation. She added the Met would “police without fear or favour” and provide updates “at significant points” in the investigation. Senior civil servant Sue Gray will now not publish her report into the alleged events until the Met’s investigation has concluded. In a statement, her office said “The investigation being carried out by Sue Gray is continuing. There is ongoing contact with the Metropolitan Police”.
